Update from the Gardens
Statice shows colors from apricot, to white, to yellow, to purple, as it blooms along the feet of the sweet corn. The sweet corn is full of tassels and silk. The early varieties have ears full of swollen yellow and white kernels. A dramatic and welcome rain storm yesterday afternoon leaves the soil cool and moist in the garden down by the road. There, winter squash and pumpkins start to size up while radishes (interplanted with the winter squash to dissuade squash beetles) are flowering and creating seed pods, sunflowers are preparing to open, and nasturtiums dot the garden with orange, red, and maroon.
