Update from the Gardens
Someone turned up the heat this week, and it was just what many of the plants in the gardens needed. The summer squash is finally sizing up and the pea patch is now exploding with peas. We uncovered our patch of fall brassicas (cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, brussels) and gave them a first cultivation. Our second planting of green beans is also in that same garden, along with autumn beets and carrots, which have all germinated beautifully. All the plants look great, but we had a deer wander into the garden last night and do some nibbling. Not much damage, but it's gonna take some make shift fencing to protect the young crops. First digging of potatoes, first cucumbers out of the patch, baby melons poking their heads out of the sea of vines... looks like we are entering the summer garden season.
